Solar Pumping in a Tancat in L'Albufera (Valencia)

The Technical Management Office of the Albufera Natural Park, dependent on the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA), operates a tancat in the Albufera that requires pumping water from its interior to the outside for the development of experiments. For years, this pumping has been done using tractors with pumps hired for the occasion. Those responsible for the center were looking for a more correct solution from an environmental point of view, in accordance with the location of Tancat and the criteria of the 2030 agenda of the European Union.

The GVA technicians contacted ISER SMART ENERGY to define a solution that would allow the experiments to be carried out using the sun’s energy. ISER SMART ENERGY proposed to install direct Solar Pumping combined with an isolated solar system that allows pumping based on the needs of technicians while enabling the operation of cameras, data acquisition systems and alarms. The system also incorporates a remote internet connection that allows remote monitoring and control.

Since 2020 it has been successfully pumped with the sun.

Main features

System Type:     AC Solar Pumping
Network Type:    Three-phase
Mounting Type:    Ballastered
Number of Modules:     20 Units x 335 Wp
Peak Power (Plates):     6,7 kWp
Inverter Power:      5 kVA
AC Inverter Power:       5 kVA
Storage:     3,5 kWh
Storage Technology:       Lithium

Solar Coverage

Solar Coverage is defined as the % of energy supplied by the sun with respect to the total energy supplied to the system by the different energy sources.

% Solar coverage:     100 %

In this case, since it is a system isolated from the grid without generator sets as a secondary source, it implies that 100% of the energy comes from the sun.

CO2 emissions

CO2 savings cannot be measured directly, so to obtain it you have to calculate what would have been generated if it had been operated 100% of the time with Diesel and then calculate what has been generated in real operation with solar energy. The difference between both values will be the CO2 savings.

CO2 100% Diesel:     1.170 kg/year
CO2 with Solar System:       0 kg/year
% CO2 savigs:       100%

Economic Savings

The profitability of the investment can be calculated by relating the investment to the savings generated by the system with respect to the available alternatives.

Annual savings:       10.000 €/year
O&M expenses:          500 €/year
Simple Profitability:        30%
Return period:        3,3 years
